Spay/Neuter Info

As  licensed facility and rescue, all of our dogs are spayed and neutered. GWP Rescue, Inc provides all medical care needed to insure a happy, healthy pet. We do promote spay/neuter clinics in our communities for those seeking a low cost clinic. Most cities provide such clinics through their Humane Societies, and various other rescue organizations and shelters.

Why spay or neuter?

By having your pet spayed or neutered, you are not only helping your pet to live a longer and healthier life but also saving the lives of other animals. Spayed or neutered pets lose their desire to roam the neighborhood in search of a mate so are less likely to be injured, lost or to get into fights. They are also less likely to bite and have other behavioral problems. Males are less likely to spray or mark territory. Plus, the reproductive organs removed during surgery are those that frequently cause medical problems in older animals, including many types of cancer.

Spaying and neutering is also necessary to stop the overpopulation of pets. Every year in this country, over 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters because there are not nearly enough people to adopt them. In the Kansas City area alone, over 25,000 animals are killed in shelters. The majority of these are young healthy animals, including puppies and kittens, who if given the chance would make wonderful pets. Thousands more die on the streets from starvation, disease and injury. So please do your part to help by having your pet spayed or neutered.
